Sheriffs

One of the most famous sheriffs of the Wild West is probably Wyatt Earp. He was born 1848 of Scottish parents.

He started to work in New Mexico as a stage coach driver. His interest for guns started early and he practiced a great deal and became very skilled.

He left his work as a driver and instead started to hunt buffaloes. In connection with this he met Wild Bill Hickock och Pat Masterson, two notorious gunslingers.

The hunt for buffaloes was very profitable and Wyatt earned a small fortune. Wyatt Earp now decided to try the job as a sheriff. In the year 1876 he became sheriff in the wild cattle town Dodge City. He kept the city in an iron grip. In 1879 he went to Tombstone together with his four brothers and his friend, the gambler and gunfighter Doc Holliday.

Tombstone was at this time known to be the wildest place of all. Wyatt and his four brothers were hired to clean it up. At the shooting at OK Corral, Wyatt Earp proved his skill. Wyatt Earp died naturally in Los Angeles in 1929.
