Big move for the season: High Chaparral grows with new area and Wild West icon Texas Longhorn

This summer, the Wild West park High Chaparral opens the gates to Texas, a brand new area with three Texas Longhorns that will soon graze in a newly built enclosure. High Chaparral will then be the only operator in Sweden with the Texas Longhorn cattle breed.

When High Chaparral opens on May 22, it will be with an even bigger park and even more Wild West.

- The investment with Texas Longhorn in a completely new area and several new activities with a focus on learning is fully in line with our ambition to further develop our Wild West theme," says Mathias Bergendahl, CEO.

The 2020 summer season was marked by COVID-19 and High Chaparral is now preparing for a similar summer with continued restrictions.

- We realized early on that the summer of 2021 would be similar to 2020 and we have therefore developed several solutions since September to reduce the risk of congestion and increase the spread of visitors in the park. In addition to the new Texas area, we have created an additional entrance to the park, digital food ordering for take away and three new picnic areas. Also new this year, visitors can order Wild West gear in advance for pickup in the park. We have also created a brand new 1,000 square meter shop solution in our warehouse, with separate entrance and exit, as well as an outdoor queuing system in a 2,500 square meter square," says Mathias Bergendahl.

The Texas Longhorn is a unique and characteristic breed of cattle of the American Wild West. The breed became popular in the 1870s when cowboys moved them across the Great Plains of North America. The Texas Longhorn is particularly known for its long horns, which can be over three meters long from tip to tip.

On Saturday, May 22, High Chaparral will open its doors for the 2021 summer season. High Chaparral's three new Texas Longhorns are expected to be released into the enclosure on May 18.

What's new in the park in 2021 - bigger, safer and more fun

This year's innovations are not only fun but also offer more space for everyone and reduce the risk of queues and congestion so that everyone can experience a safe and secure adventure.

Food on your mobile – order “Take-away” or “Eat here”

To make it as easy as possible for you, you can order and pay for your food with your mobile phone without having to download an app. You choose from the restaurant's menu here on the website or via QR code in the park and pay with Swish. You can choose "Take away" or "Eat here". It couldn't be more convenient - you don't have to wait for your food or queue. Tasty food.

The restaurants with Mobile Food are: Restaurante Cantina, Kate’s Palace, Uncle Dave's Hamburgers, Tony's (formerly Pizzeria Manolito) and Bryggan on the campsite.

Texas – check out animals and have coffee at the new Minnies Café

This summer we're getting bigger! In Texas, our brand new area, you can watch animals, play Ranch Memory, walk an exciting quiz course, eat something tasty at Minnie's Café or why not set up a take-away or your own picnic at one of High Chaparral's many cozy picnic spots.

Picnic in the green

When cowboys drove cattle, they ate their meals around the campfire. The food was simple – beans, hard biscuits, dried meat, dried fruit, and coffee. With us, you can also recharge your batteries under the open sky at one of our many picnic areas. Order takeaway from our restaurants, or bring your own picnic, and turn your meal into an adventure in the countryside – where fun and laughter are the best seasoning. This year, we have installed three new picnic areas: one at River City, one on the island at the campsite entrance, and one in the new Texas area.

Young Guns Warehouse

New this year, we are opening the new Young Guns Warehouse every day between 10 am and 12 pm. Young Guns Warehouse is a new store solution in our over 1,000 square meter warehouse. Entrance is from Main street. Our regular store Young Guns 1 opens at 12:00.

Get ready for the big adventure

Gear up for the big adventure in our webshop. Pre-order puffers, hats and more, and pick up the stuff when you get to the park, so you skip the lines and help us reduce the risk of congestion. More information about pre-ordering will come in an email a few days before your visit.

High booking pressure at High Chaparral

Book your summer adventure

High booking pressure at High Chaparral

Interest in visiting High Chaparral this summer is high. The Wild West park in Småland is seeing a significant increase in bookings compared to the same period in 2020 and is introducing a daily visitor limit.

In February, the number of bookings increased by over 50% compared to February 2020 and the forecast for March is that the number of bookings will be more than double compared to the same month last year. Booking pressure is particularly high for July.

- "We are extremely pleased with the great interest ahead of the summer. With a traditionally large number of returning visitors, we also see it as a sign that the park was perceived as safe last year, despite covid-19, and that many now choose to come back this year, says Mathias Bergendahl, CEO of the High Chaparral theme park.

The 2020 summer season was marked by COVID-19 and the High Chaparral theme and theater park is now preparing for a similar summer with continued restrictions. Already in September last year, High Chaparral started to develop solutions to further disperse visitors in the park and actively work to counteract crowding, which this year also includes a limit on the number of visitors per day. The measures include an extension of the park.

- Due to the pressure we see, we are already preparing for a limitation. We are awaiting a final decision on a possible visitor ceiling for us as a theme park, but can state that the Public Health Authority's proposal of 1 person per 20 square meters is relatively close to the booking limit we introduced on our own initiative last summer, says Mathias Bergendahl.

On Saturday, May 22, High Chaparral opens its doors for the 2021 summer season.

Double the interest in summer employment at High Chaparral compared to last year

Recruitment for summer 2021:

Double the interest in summer employment at High Chaparral compared to last year

Recruitment of seasonal staff for the Wild West Park in Småland for summer 2021 is in full swing. Compared to the recruitment a year ago, the theme park has received twice as many applications.

For each summer season, High Chaparral hires a total of 350 seasonal employees. Available positions include actors, campground hosts and receptionists, sound technicians, ushers, horse grooms, paramedics, adventure staff such as train robbers and gold panning, as well as a number of retail and restaurant positions.

There has been particularly strong interest in the positions of steam engine driver and actor. Interest in working in the costume workshop, where nearly 800 individual costumes are created for each season, triples in the summer.

High Chaparral is now preparing for a similar summer with continued restrictions.

- With valuable experience from last summer, planning work is underway for this year's season with a particular focus on further reducing the risk of queuing and increasing the spread of visitors in the park, as well as further development of the park's measures linked to covid-19, says Mathias Bergendahl, CEO of High Chaparral.

The deadline for applications is January 31, 2021 for actors and February 28, 2021 for other positions. Vacancies can be found here: https://www.highchaparral.se/jobba-hos-oss/.

High Chaparral opens on May 22 and closes for the season on September 5.

High Chaparral opens on May 22, 2021

On Saturday, May 22 next year, High Chaparral will open its doors for the 2021 summer season. The Wild West park continues to develop the brand Become part of the adventure that paved the way for satisfied visitors this past summer.

The 2020 summer season was marked by COVID-19 and High Chaparral is now preparing for a similar summer with continued restrictions.

To find a sustainable solution for visitors, staff and horses, High Chaparral made a major change this summer when Shows were replaced by interactive activities with the park's many Wild West characters. A change that contributed to High Chaparral yesterday receiving the Grand Tourism Prize 2020 and which the park is now building on.

Focus areas in the planning work for the summer season include further minimizing queuing and at the same time increasing the spread of visitors in the park.

- Ahead of summer 2020, we made it clear that the opportunity to open came with a great responsibility. That our entire operation would follow the prevailing restrictions and laws, and design the necessary measures based on them. We have taken our experiences and the positive response we received from our visitors with us, and are now working to further develop our measures linked to covid-19," says Mathias Bergendahl, CEO of High Chaparral.

In summer 2020, 117,000 visitors visited High Chaparral, 73% of the number of visitors in 2019.

High Chaparral opens on May 22 and closes for the season on September 5. Booking for season and gift passes will open on December 1, 2020 and entrance tickets and accommodation in January 2021. Recruitment of 350 seasonal staff will begin on Friday, November 27.
